Our Love In Action Model

Five layers of care around each child

God’s love never stops, never gives up and never runs out. And that’s the Kidz Klub way.

Our five layers bring together support for children, their families and their communities, building relationships that last and transforming children’s futures.

Our Way Is Love, Love, Love

Layer 1: Love Shows Up

We visit children at home and spend time with them in their schools and neighbourhoods. By coming back week after week, we become familiar faces children and families can get to know and trust.

More about this layer

For over 25 years, we’ve been getting to know children and families in Leeds’ inner-city communities. Through home visits, school assemblies, Kidz Klubs, street play and family support, we share God’s love in practical ways.

Children have someone who remembers them, listens and takes them seriously. Families have someone to turn to when things are difficult, including practical help during a crisis. There’s room for fun and friendship too.

Challenges addressed:

  • Generational Poverty
  • Poverty of opportunity
  • Family instability
  • Trauma and lack of trusted adults

Layer 2: Belonging Together

Our Klubs give children somewhere to play, make friends and feel at home. They can join in without having to prove themselves, with trauma informed adults who help them feel safe and welcome.

More about this layer

Through Central Klub, Hub Klubs and Play Streets, children spend time together, build friendships and grow in confidence. Our approach takes account of how trauma can affect children, helping us create spaces where they feel safe, encouraged and accepted. They also have room to explore faith at their own pace.

Camps, seaside adventures, countryside days, theatre trips and mentoring outings give children opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach. These are chances to try something new, have fun together and make memories

Challenges addressed

  • Loneliness and feeling left out
  • Bullying, gangs and community violence
  • A lack of safe places to play
  • The cost of activities and trips
  • Poor mental health

In numbers

  • 9 Hub Klub sessions weekly
  • 300+ children attend Central Klub
  • 2,000+ children engage annually
  • 76% of children surveyed say Kidz Klub helps them feel stronger

Layer 3: Family Strength

Children thrive when their grown-ups do too. We support parents and carers through difficult times, helping with practical needs and working with schools and local services so families don’t have to face everything alone.

More about this layer

Families can ask for help from people they already know and trust. We listen without judgement, help parents and carers make their voices heard, and work with them to find the support their children need.

That might mean finding essentials during a crisis, working with a school when a child is struggling to attend, or helping a family rebuild communication with local services when trust has broken down. Throughout, we keep the child’s needs at the centre.

One local dad, a longtime volunteer, noticed a boy who had only two sets of clothes. He sorted through his own son’s wardrobe and brought clothes to share. When our team delivered them the following week, the boy’s face lit up.

Challenges families are navigating

  • Mental health pressures affecting children and parents
  • Poverty, including going without food, heating, beds and other essentials
  • Family stress, relationship breakdown and domestic abuse
  • Difficulties attending school, additional needs/SEND and unmet health needs
  • Community crime, exploitation and concerns about children’s safety
  • Poor-quality or insecure housing
  • Gaps in stretched services, and stress linked to justice or immigration processes

Kidz Klub are the best people to have in your corner.

Layer 4: Faith in Action

Children explore who Jesus is and how deeply they are loved, with space to ask questions and explore faith at their own pace. We also help them put faith into action by planning and running their own community change events.

More about this layer

Kidz Klub grew out of churches across the city coming together to serve inner-city children. Everything we do is fuelled by the never-stopping, never-giving-up, never running out, love of God.

We explore faith in safe, age-appropriate, respectful ways. Children of all faiths and none come as they are and are loved as they are. Faith is shared in everyday language, always with respect, curiosity, and kindness. We create spaces where children can ask questions, and explore hope without fear of judgment. Our approach is never manipulative; always trauma-informed, kind, and rooted in dignity.

Through stories, songs, games, pastoral care, and encouragement, children discover that they matter, they are loved, and their future is full of hope. Over time, we’ve seen children who have experienced fear and trauma grow in confidence and feel safer in the relationships they build here.

What children experience:

  • Opportunities to explore who Jesus is and how deeply they are loved
  • Encouragement and pastoral care
  • A hope-filled narrative about their worth and future
  • Healing through consistent love and community
  • Empowerment as they plan and run their own community change events (we call these ‘Activates’).

Children’s feedback

  • 81% enjoy hearing about God “a lot”.
  • 70% say Kidz Klub helps them talk to God “a lot”.

Thank you God for always being there for me.

Layer 5: Rooted for the Long Haul

We’re in it for the long haul. That means we have the joy of seeing children grow into young leaders and become role models for the next generation.

More about this layer

Kidz Klub is in it for decades, not seasons. Over time, children become young leaders; young leaders become role models; and communities begin to transform from the inside out.

We equip children and young people with purpose, confidence and opportunities to lead. Through our Skills Portfolio, community projects, mentoring and leadership pathways, they discover their gifts and use them to bless their neighbourhoods.

As young people help shape and lead projects in their own communities, they create new patterns for the next generation. Younger children see people they know taking responsibility and making a difference where they live.

This is the long-term change we work towards: leadership replacing despair, confidence replacing limitation, and loving presence replacing instability across generations. As local people develop the confidence, relationships and experience to support one another, we’ve seen how neighbourhoods become stronger and better able to face challenges together.

Challenges addressed

  • Poverty and limited opportunities
  • Low confidence and difficulty imagining a positive future
  • Too few trusted adults who stay
  • Vulnerability to harmful influences when positive opportunities are missing
